The mevalonate kinase (MK) is the enzyme that in eukaryotes the phosphorylation of mevalonate catalyzes a partial step in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids . MK is localized in the cytosol of the peroxisomes . When people can mutations in the MVK - gene for hereditary mevalonate kinase deficiency and Hyperimmunoglobulinemia result of type D.
Catalyzed reaction
R- evalonate is converted to 5-phospho- R -mevalonate.
