The Meyer & Meyer Holding SE & Co. KG is an international freight forwarding - and logistics company based in Osnabrück ( Lower Saxony ). The family business specializes in fashion logistics.
history
In 1902, Adolf Maximilian Meyer founded a transport company for furniture transport in Osnabrück. He used horse and cart for transport . In 1924 he bought the first truck . Meyer died in 1932; his sons Adolf Meyer and Josef Meyer took over the company. In 1949 they founded another haulage company, expanded the business area to include bus transport and offered trips such as pilgrimages. In 1953, the brothers separated the company and became competitors specializing in the transport of textiles. In 1986 Josef Meyer and his son Rolf were involved in founding Deutsche Textil Logistik (DTL). In 1990, Rolf Meyer and Michael Meyer, son of Adolf Meyer, merged the two Meyerschen logistics companies to form "Adolf Meyer & Josef Meyer Internationale Spediteure GmbH & Co. KG".
In 2006 Meyer & Meyer built a logistics center for hanging textile goods at the Peine location , in which the goods are automatically transported through the hall on hangers. A fully automated flat-packed goods center followed in Osnabrück in 2008.
In 2012, Meyer & Meyer took over the insolvent Osnabrück forwarding company Friedrich Koch, which was founded in Osnabrück in 1924, with a fleet of 100 transport vehicles, and has since managed it as an independent company within the Meyer & Meyer group under the name Friedrich Koch Transportgesellschaft mbH.
Meyer & Meyer is involved in Even on Sunday GmbH, based in Osnabrück and Hamburg, an agency for marketing, technology and e-commerce.
From 2015 to 2019, the focus was on growth and internationalization. The company has been operating under the international legal form Meyer & Meyer Holding SE & Co. KG since 2017. Two large new logistics halls for parcels and flat textile goods were built at the Peine location. In 2018, a large, automated shuttle warehouse was integrated into one of the new buildings. At the Osnabrück location, the automated logistics center “Am Tie” has been expanded to include an identical hall. In the fall, Meyer & Meyer took over WKS Textilveredelungs-GmbH from Wilsum, an international system provider for quality assurance of fashion and lifestyle products, in which the company had previously owned shares. The WKS is an important component and partner in the Meyer & Meyer service portfolio. The Italian company of WKS bundled its activities in 2019 in a joint venture called MOVITEX - A Joint Venture of MoviModa and WKS. At the same time, Meyer & Meyer is continuously developing the existing foreign locations.
In 2019 Meyer & Meyer completed a generation change. After the third generation handed over management to an external board member for the first time in 2016, the company is family-run again with the entry of siblings Maximilian and Theresa Meyer, who run the company together with other external board members.
Services / product
The company's services are based on the value chain of the textile industry . The company accompanies fashion companies along all services in this value chain and calls this principle "From Sheep to Shop". The principle begins with the inspection of the raw materials. Once a manufacturer has selected ingredients and materials for production, the logistician can take over the quality inspection of the raw materials and ingredients and B. Test fabrics for color fastness or weaving defects.
The range of services also includes the transport of raw materials for production or of finished garments to the logistics centers . The company works with air, sea and land freight and, if necessary, also offers customs services.
The finished goods, like the raw materials, can be subjected to quality assurance . For this purpose, for example, size or fit controls are carried out. In addition, the goods can be mechanically or manually smoothed if necessary to make them ready for sale. In the area of warehouse logistics, so-called value-added services are also offered in addition to the storage and picking of goods. This includes B. pulling in belts or attaching price and security labels. The next step is to route the goods into the various sales channels and finally to the end customer.
The last step in the value chain is the planning, conception, implementation and maintenance of the e-commerce platforms as well as the provision of a platform for networking the online shop with the necessary logistics in the branches.
The company also offers other logistics solutions in the automotive, consumer electronics and sensitive goods sectors.
Meyer & Meyer's customers include a. the clothing companies Icebreaker , Marc Cain, Mustang and Schöffel.
Projects in the field of transport
Meyer & Meyer tested the possible uses of the so-called EuroCombi in the pilot project of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for 2 years . The truck, which is 25.25 meters long, offers extra space for the transport of textiles thanks to its additional volume. A EuroCombi loaded with textiles weighs approx. 40 tons and remains below the permissible total weight.
From 2010, Meyer & Meyer in Berlin was the first German company to test two electric trucks for inner-city traffic as part of the “Electric Mobility in Model Regions” project, supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport.

Meyer & Meyer has several locations in Lower Saxony. Besides Osnabrück, these are Lehrte and Peine . The company is based in Baden-Württemberg with a transport location in Stuttgart. Further locations are Norderstedt in Schleswig-Holstein and Potsdam and Wittenberge in Brandenburg. WKS Textilveredelungs-GmbH is represented in Wilsum.
International
With a network of branches and partner companies in Germany and abroad, Meyer & Meyer controls logistics activities in Europe, Asia and North Africa. The company has its own locations in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Poland and Romania. In North Africa, Meyer & Meyer is represented with its own location in Morocco and Tunisia. Via its subsidiary WKS, the company can be found in Italy, Bulgaria, the Dominican Republic, Romania, Turkey and Hungary.
