Meyuns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Meyuns is the second largest settlement in the administrative state of Koror (i.e. an administrative area ) in the island state of Palau in the Pacific .

geography

With 1,000 inhabitants, Meyuns is almost as big as the settlement of Airai state . It is located in the west of the archipelago on the island of Ngerekebesang and is connected to the capital Koror on the island of Oreor by road dams. Together with Ngerekebesang and Echang , the place forms the settlements on Ngerekebesang. The Belau National Hospital , the largest hospital in the country, is located in Meyuns . While the town and island border the large Komebail Lagoon in the north , the island of Ngerekebesang is connected to Oreor to the east by reefs and shallow channels, and to the south only the narrow channel Llebuchel (Arkabesan Anchorage) separates the island from the island of Ngerchaol in the south. The main part of the Meyuns settlement lies on the "Pfannenstiel", which extends to the east.

education

Schools are run by the Ministry of Education . The Meyuns Elementary School was only built around 1969 and expanded in 1973. The school was founded after Typhoon Sally destroyed the Koror Elementary School in Koror. Before that, the administration of the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands was not at all interested in building schools in Meyuns. For further education, students must attend Palau High School in Koror.
