From the founding of the Miami Dolphins in 1966 to 1977, the cheerleading group of the " Dolphin Dolls " consisted of 125 girls and women aged 8 to 18 years. At home games of the Miami Dolphins, 48 of them appeared on the field at Orange Bowl Stadium , while the remaining members cheered on the team from their seats. This amateur group was replaced in 1978 by the " Dolphin Starbrites ", whose 30 or so members were professional cheerleaders for the first time. These cheerleaders were selected from a total of 300 applicants. They danced on a stage in the stadium and performed a Broadway- style show to the music of a brass band at halftime . The uniform included one-piece swimsuits and white go-go boots. In 1983, the Miami Dolphins and the restaurant chain Burger King organized a competition to name the cheerleading formation. The name " Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders " chosen at the end of the competition has been current since then. Since the mid-1990s, the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders have been striving for a particularly glamorous appearance. This also includes wearing shiny white boots and the new uniform with rhinestones . The Swimsuit Calendar published annually at the beginning of the new NFL season is a special highlight . In addition to participating in home games of the Miami Dolphins and various local appearances in Miami-Dade County , the cheerleaders' duties include international appearances, photo shoots and visits to US military units overseas and various aid organizations throughout the year . As part of the Miami Dolphins' youth and youth program, the cheerleaders also offer events and courses for girls in children's and youth groups.
