National Football League Cheerleading , or more simply NFL Cheerleading , is a professional cheerleading league in the United States . 26 of the 32 NFL teams have a cheerleading group in their franchise . The female cheers are an integral part of sport, which can give a team more media coverage, airtime, local support and a better image. In the 1954 NFL, the Baltimore Colts were the first team with cheerleaders. NFL teams without cheerleaders these days are just the Buffalo Bills , Chicago Bears , Cleveland Browns , New York Giants , Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers .

tasks

According to most of the NFL cheerleading websites, cheerleading is classified as part-time work . Still, this part-time assignment requires a considerable amount of time spent on training, practice camps, games, gigs, photo shoots, and charity events.

In many cases, cheerleaders are students at university or have graduated from university and after an average of 1–4 seasons as cheerleaders, they embark on other career paths.

In addition to their main job of cheering and animating during football games, cheerleaders have many other duties. Almost every team member is available for appearances at schools, events, conferences, etc. for a fixed fee . An expected annual event is the publication of the group's calendar, which shows team members in swimwear, underwear, or uniforms for each month. In addition to being a mainstay of American football culture, cheerleaders are one of the largest entertainment groups to perform regularly for U.S. military units overseas. These tours and performances are organized by the USO . The teams send out their variety show , an elite group of their best members, to perform a combination of dance, music, acrobatics , gymnastics and more. In February 2007, the Buffalo Bills even sent an eight-person group with a choreographer to the combat zone in Iraq.

In 2006, a competition created specifically for NFL cheerleaders called "NFL Cheerleader Playoffs" was launched on the NFL Network . Two women from each cheerleading team competed against other teams in a variety of athletic exercises. These included kayaking , sprinting over 100 yards, obstacle course and more.

In the 2019 Super Bowl , the Los Angeles Rams were the first team to appear there with male cheerleaders.

Pro Bowl

The cheerleading team for the 2006 Pro Bowl

Each year, one cheerleader from each NFL team is selected to appear in the joint Pro Bowl cheerleading team. Traditionally, this is the highest appreciation of talent and popularity an NFL cheerleader can receive.

The cheerleaders are selected by an internal system. All cheerleaders and coaches of a team are allowed to note their three favorites, which are then rated according to a point scale. For the 3rd place on a piece of paper there is 1 point, for the second 2 and for the first 3. The cheerleader with the highest number of points can then represent her team at the Pro Bowl.
