Föching is a district of the Holzkirchen market in Upper Bavaria . The village is about two and a half kilometers northeast of the market center in the direction of Aschbach .

geography

Föching borders in the north on the Teufelsgraben and the Hofoldinger Forest . The Federal Motorway 8 runs immediately to the east with the Holzkirchen junction.

history

The ending -ing indicates a settlement by the Bavarians around the 7th / 8th century. Föching was first mentioned in a document in 817 in a tradition book of the Tegernsee monastery as "Vechingen". The name is derived from Wecho as the founder of the settlement.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Föching was dissolved. The larger part, with around 900 inhabitants at that time, was incorporated into the Holzkirchen market. About 400 residents came to Valley .

Infrastructure and sights

The village itself is dominated by agriculture, but due to the proximity to the Holzkirchen S-Bahn station and the motorway, there are also businesses and new residential areas in the area.

The church of St. Johann Baptist, built between 1664 and 1671 in the style of the early Bavarian church baroque in the basin of an old river bed, is well known as a pilgrimage church to the " Sorrowful Mother of God " because of the "miraculous image of the Sorrowful Mother of Föching" . There are two previous buildings occupied. The approx. 60 meter high church tower is the highest in the Miesbach district and can be seen from afar.
