Michèle Striffler (born August 23, 1957 in Mulhouse , Alsace ) is a French politician. She was a member of the European Parliament for La Gauche moderne from 2009 to 2014 .

Life and political career

Striffler made the diploma in pharmacy for pharmaceutical representatives. She then worked as a commercial clerk in a travel agency as well as in the construction and real estate sectors, also in Germany and Switzerland . From 1989 to 2007 she worked professionally as a pharmaceutical representative.

Striffler was secretary of the Mulhouse (Alsace) section of the Socialist Party and a member of the party committee for financial control. In 2007 she left the PS to join the newly founded party La Gauche moderne of Mülhausen Mayor Jean-Marie Bockel , where she also became chairman of the Alsace party association . A year later she was elected to the party executive committee. From 2008 to 2010 she was Deputy Mayor of Mulhouse, and since then she has been responsible for European affairs on the local city council.

In the European elections in 2009 she was elected to the European Parliament in the constituency of Est, which includes eastern France . There she sat in the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) , was deputy chair of the Committee on Development and a delegate in the ACP- EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly .

In the 2014 European elections , Striffler was in third place on the joint list of UDI and MoDem in the constituency of Eastern France, which was not enough for a return to the EU Parliament. In the 2019 European elections , she ran unsuccessfully for the animal welfare party Parti animaliste .
