Margarita Fullana Riera (born April 9, 1972 in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar as Margarita Fullana ) is a Spanish cyclist , three-time mountain bike world champion and two-time European cross-duathlon champion (2015, 2016).

Career

Cycling career

Margarita has been one of the strongest Spanish cyclists since the late 1980s and is successful on the road , mountain bike and in cyclo-cross races . Even as a junior, she won podium places in Spanish road championships. In 1993 she became the Spanish runner-up in the women's road race and in 1999 the Spanish champion.

Margarita Fullana competed three times in Cross Country at the Olympic Games; In 2000 in Sydney she won the bronze medal. In 1997, Fullana was third at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Cross Country . In 1999, 2000 and 2008 she won the world title.

In 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005 she was third in each of the European championships. In 2002 she took second place in the Mountain Bike World Cup . In 2009 she was also the Spanish runner-up in the cyclo-cross race, and in 2013 the Spanish champion in cross-country.

Doping ban 2010

In August 2010, the 38-year-old was tested positive for doping with Epo during a training check and was banned for two years until the end of September 2012.

Comeback after the 2013 duathlon suspension

In 2013 she started at the state championship in duathlon and finished ninth.

In October 2015, Margarita Fullana became European cross-duathlon champion in Romania and she was able to repeat this success in 2016. Her nickname is "Marga".
