The mountain bike race of women in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney was held on September 23 2000th

During the first half of the race, the Swiss Barbara Blatter was mostly in the lead, but her lead was never more than 20 seconds. Eventually she was caught up and later overtaken by the Spaniard Margarita Fullana . Fullana was actually considered the winner, but Paola Pezzo was able to attack again and moved from third to first place. Although Blatter closed again because of a fall by Pezzo, could not prevent Pezzo's Olympic victory.
