The women's mountain bike race at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place on August 21, 2016 in the Centro Olímpico de Mountain Bike .

The course was 29.67 kilometers long, with a total of six laps, each 4.85 kilometers long.

The Olympic champion was Jenny Rissveds from Sweden, silver went to Maja Włoszczowska from Poland and the bronze medal went to Catharine Pendrel from Canada, who was two seconds faster than her compatriot Emily Batty .
