Leonhard Franz August Ernst von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff (born September 10, 1823 in Plathe , † April 4, 1888 in Dresden ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 10th Cavalry Brigade .

Life

Leonhard was the son of Mr. Karl von Knobelsdorff-Brenkenhoff (1795–1858) and his wife Minna, born von der Osten (1797–1868).

Military career

After attending grammar schools in Köslin and Stettin , Knobelsdorff joined the Prussian Army's 2nd Guard-Uhlan Regiment on December 16 as an ulan . In mid-June 1842 he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich and rose in mid-May 1844 to aggregate secondary lieutenant . On May 13, 1845, he was aggregated to the 5th Hussar Regiment and assigned to the end of June 1852. From June 1, 1854 to December 31, 1856 Knobelsdorff was commanded to serve in the 5th Landwehr Hussar Regiment in Köslin and during this time advanced to the position of Prime Lieutenant and Squadron Leader. From February 1, 1858 to June 20, 1859, and from May 1, 1861 to August 8, 1862, further orders to the 5th Landwehr Hussar Regiment took place. He was appointed Rittmeister on December 11, 1858, and squadron chief on August 9, 1862 . In the war against Austria in 1866 Knobelsdorff led the 1st squadron of his regiment at Münchengrätz , Gitschin and Königgrätz .

After the war he was promoted to major on October 30, 1866 , and at the end of November 1867 he was transferred to the Thuringian Uhlan Regiment No. 6 in Mühlhausen as a regular staff officer . During the war against France he fought at Weißenburg , Wörth , Remilly-sur-Meuse, Chartres , Courville , Sedan , Orleans , Loigny-Poupry , Beaugency-Cravant and Le Mans . Awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, Knobelsdorff was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 8, 1871 and was regimental commander from March 29 to April 16, 1871. On July 15, 1871, he was initially commissioned with the command of Posen's Uhlan Regiment No. 10 under position à la suite . On November 4, 1871, he was appointed regimental commander and on March 22, 1873, he was promoted to colonel . On September 18, 1875 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Awarded a ribbon in the first class, he was appointed commander of the 10th Cavalry Brigade on November 21, 1878, with the position à la suite of his regiment. Knobelsdorff rose on June 11, 1879 Major General and was on 10 June 1880 with board for disposition made. He died on April 4, 1888 in Dresden.

In his assessment of January 1, 1866, General Karl Friedrich von der Goltz wrote : Is such an excellent disposition, skillful and useful officer that, in the interests of the service, it must be urgently requested that he be transferred to a higher sphere of activity very soon see .

Knobelsdorff married on October 10, 1851 in Stolp Klara von Tilemann (1828-1906). The couple had several children:
