Sophie Villeneuve (born November 6, 1969 in Mulhouse ) is a former French cross-country skier and mountain biker .

Career

Villeneuve ran her first of a total of 92 individual World Cup races in Lahti in March 1990 , which she finished in 34th place over 5 km freestyle. In the following year she got her first World Cup point in Falun with the 15th place in the 10 km freestyle. Her best results at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville were 18th place over 30 km freestyle and fifth place with the relay. In the 1992/93 season she won the Continental Cup in Toblach over 10 km freestyle and achieved second place over 10 km freestyle in Argentière . Her best placings at the highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1993 , were 20th in the pursuit and ninth in the relay. In the following season she came nine times in the points in 12 World Cup appearances and thus reached 21st place in the overall World Cup. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , she finished 23rd over 5 km classic, 11th place with the relay, tenth place in the pursuit and ninth place over 15 km freestyle. The following year she came at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay to 31st place over 5 km classic, 18th place in the pursuit and 16th place over 30 km freestyle. In the 1995/96 season, she achieved 18th place in the overall World Cup with 14 places in the points. In the following season, with four top ten placements, she came 18th in the long distance World Cup, 15th in the overall World Cup and 14th in the Sprint World Cup. Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim in 1997 were ninth place over 15 km freestyle and seventh place with the relay. In the 1997/98 season she came in the points in all 11 individual World Cup participations. In Milan she achieved her best individual placement in the World Cup with fourth place in the sprint and her best overall placings at the end of the season with 17th place in the long distance World Cup, 14th place in the overall World Cup and 12th place in the sprint World Cup. In addition, she was second in the team sprint in Falun together with Karine Laurent Philippot . At the season highlight, the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , she finished 32nd place over 5 km classic, 27th place in the pursuit, 17th place over 30 km freestyle and 11th place with the relay. In the following season she achieved 18th place in the overall World Cup with 12 results. Her best placements at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein were tenth place each over 5 km classic and in the pursuit and ninth place with the relay. She completed her last individual World Cup race in March 1999 in Oslo , which she finished classically in 17th place over 30 km. In 1999 and 2001 she won the La Foulée Blanche over 30 km freestyle and in 2000 and 2001 the Marathon de Bessans over 42 km freestyle. As a mountain biker , she took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . She drove to 23rd place in cross country .
