Michał Gedeon Hieronim Radziwiłł (German: Michael Georg Prince Radziwill ) (born September 24, 1778 - May 24, 1850 ) was a Polish officer and temporarily commander in chief of the Polish army during the November uprising of 1830/31.

Life

He was the son of Prince Michael Radziwill and his wife Helene (née Countess Przezdziecka). He served under Tadeusz Kościuszko in the Kościuszko uprising from 1792 to 1794. During the Polish uprising against Prussia in 1806, he commanded an infantry regiment with which he advanced to Danzig . He also served in the military of the Duchy of Warsaw . In 1812 he took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign . After the battle of Smolensk he was promoted to colonel of the 8th regiment and brigadier general on the battlefield and was awarded the Legion of Honor. He distinguished himself again at the siege of Danzig in 1813. On Napoleon's side, he took part in all campaigns in the years 1812–1814. After the establishment of the Russian-dominated Kingdom of Poland , he was appointed senator and division general in 1815. In the same year he married Alexandra (nee Countess Stecka). With this he had a son and a daughter. A short time later he retired from public life. After the outbreak of the uprising of 1830 he became general en chief of the Polish troops. He commanded the army in the battles at the beginning of the war in February 1831. After the undecided battle at Grochów , he pleaded in vain for the conclusion of peace. Thereupon he resigned the supreme command and from then on served as a soldier in the army. After the Russian victory he had to live in Moscow. From 1836 Radziwill lived in Dresden .
