Michael Arndt (politician, 1941)

Michael Arndt (* 9. November 1941 in Magdeburg ) is a German politician of the SPD and was from 2001 to 2006 first Region President of the Hanover region .

Life

In 1953 he and his family moved from the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany. After graduating from high school in 1962, he studied law in Göttingen and Freiburg . He received his doctorate and had been a department head at the Lüneburg district government since 1972 . In 1975 he became a cabinet advisor at the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education , and in 1976 he became an advisor in the Lower Saxony state parliament . From 1981 he was head of department and since 1999 district administrator in the district of Hanover . From 2001 to 2006 Arndt was regional president of the newly formed Hanover region . His term of office included the establishment of the waste management association for the Hanover region and the Hanover Region Clinic , the merger of the Kreissparkasse Hanover and the Stadtsparkasse Hanover to form Sparkasse Hanover and the reform of the vocational school system. Arndt has been President of the Association of German Nature Parks since September 9, 2006 . He is married and has three children.
