Michael Beringer

Michael Beringer (born September 29, 1566 in Uhlbach , † November 15, 1625 in Tübingen ) was a German jurist ( iuris utriusque doctor ) and philologist of the Protestant denomination .

Beringer comes from a widespread Württemberg family. He was married to Barbara Aychlin († 1631). At first he was the preceptor of the Hereditary Prince Johann Friedrich von Württemberg at the Tübingen Collegium Illustre und Hofmeister , later professor of the Hebrew language in Tübingen. In his Oratio de sancta lingua Hebraea (Tübingen 1599) he increased the concept of the tres linguae sacrae , the three sacred languages, by claiming that Hebrew was the oldest language of Adam and Eve and was spoken by God, who was the future Messiah in this language will send; therefore the study of Hebrew is also an important instrument for converting Jews .
