Eugen von Schneider

Friedrich Eugen Schneider , from 1907 by Schneider (born September 22, 1854 in Stuttgart ; † August 31, 1937 there ), was a German archivist and regional historian .

Life

Schneider first attended high school in Stuttgart . His attempt to get to one of the lower seminaries in Württemberg, which prepared for theological studies, failed because of his health. After he had nevertheless passed the necessary exams, he was accepted into the Tübingen monastery in 1872 . This was followed by a study of philosophy and theology at the University of Tübingen , through which he initially obtained his master's degree .

Schneider was in on 23 March 1877 Esslinger town church ordained and then vicar in Deizisau , until him on June 26 in 1877 Loffenau replied. On July 10, 1877, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . On November 2, 1877, he was appointed parish administrator in Deizisau. On January 14, 1878, he asked to be released from church service. The consistory accepted his request with regret.

Schneider found employment as an assistant teacher at the Stuttgart secondary school in 1878 . 12 October 1878 he received a reputation as Repetent to the Seminar Blaubeuren . He stayed there, interrupted by a trip to France , until 1880 when he went to Berlin for further studies. However, he received the information that a position was advertised at the archive in Stuttgart. On April 23, 1881, he received the post of expeditor at the Royal House and State Archives Stuttgart with the title of archive secretary.

Schneider's further career at the archive was paved in April 1883 when he passed the theological employment exam; five years later, in 1888, he was given the title of archive assessor and in 1895 a corresponding post. In 1899 he was promoted to the archives council, in June 1902 a member of the State Statistical Office and in 1903 a managing member of the Württemberg Commission for State History .

Schneider's career culminated in December 1905 with his appointment as director of the Secret House and State Archives. In 1906 he was also appointed coat of arms censor. By being awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown, Schneider was elevated to the personal nobility in 1907. From the beginning of the 20th century he was a frequent guest of the royal family. He retired on January 31, 1924 .

From 1903 to 1924 Schneider was the editor of the Württemberg quarterly books for regional history . He also wrote a large number of articles for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB).
