Michael Danner's work concept is an open system that creates a kind of energy field in a comprehensive view of the world, of the universal whole, of people and their senses, from which spiritual potentials take shape. His works can be seen as manifestations in a progressive continuum, as relics of a procedural process, as a pause that has become matter on the path of permanent change. This approach is characterized by a deeply felt closeness to the human body and the cycles of nature. Michael Danner deals with spaces, tensions, processes. The preoccupation with East Asian philosophy and the active practice of an Asian martial art (Tae Kwon Do, 3rd Dan) has influenced him to a concentrated presentation reduced to the essentials.

In painting, Michael Danner lets color penetrate from the back to the front through linear surface damage in the vibrating monochrome picture surfaces. In this way, the underneath and behind, the flat and the spatial, become visible at this interface. In large-format, reduced ink pictures, he visualizes states of tension that dynamize the entire picture surface. Empty spaces or points of contact often form the focus, action and reaction are mutually dependent. Michael Danner's installations relate the various forms of representation and their fields of tension with the surrounding space and the viewer located in it. This creates a complex physical-mental and spatial-temporal network of relationships.
