Dietz was councilor in Wiesbaden and governor from 1814.

In a by-election for Jacob Bertram in 1823, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Land estates of the Duchy of Nassau for the group of tradespeople in the Wiesbaden constituency. He was re-elected in 1825 and 1832. In 1832 his mandate was revoked after he was one of the MPs in the Nassau domain dispute who had boycotted parliament in protest. In the by-elections he was excluded from running.
