Michael Dowling

Michael Dowling (* 1958 in Port Jefferson , New York ) is an American economist . He is professor for innovation and technology management at the University of Regensburg .

Career

Dowling studied at the University of Texas at Austin (Bachelor of Arts with High Honors), Harvard University (Master of Science) and University of Texas at Austin (Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration). As an exchange student, he also studied for two years at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich . He also worked as a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria, and as a research analyst at McKinsey & Company in Düsseldorf.

After completing his doctorate, Dowling was an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia , USA, from 1988 to 1994 , where he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1995. In the 1990 summer semester he was a visiting researcher at the Institute for Organization at the LM University in Munich with Eberhard Witte and in the 1994 summer semester at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg at the chair for corporate management at Steinmann. In 1995 he received offers to the University of Paderborn , the University of Bayreuth and the endowed chair for innovation and technology management at the University of Regensburg . He accepted the call to the University of Regensburg and was appointed with effect from July 1, 1996. In 1999 he was offered a position at the University of Cologne . In 2004 he received offers at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management and at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.

His research areas are: strategic management, innovation and technology management, entrepreneurship and international management. He has published research articles in the following journals: Die Betriebswirtschaft, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, California Management Review, Journal of Management Inquiry, Journal of Industrial and Corporate Change, Research Policy, Business Horizons, Columbia Journal of World Business, Journal of High Technology Management Research, Telematics and Informatics and Telecommunications Policy.

He has received various grants and awards: Prize for good teaching from the Free State of Bavaria, Phi Beta Kappa , Rotary International, a Fulbright grant and an SEL foundation grant.

Michael Dowling has been CEO of the Münchner Kreis since January 1, 2014 . He has also been a full member of the German Academy of Engineering Sciences since October 2015 .
