Michael Frühwirth

Michael Frühwirth (born October 21, 1891 in Schwarzenbach ; † March 31, 1958 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP / SPÖ ) and union official. From 1930 to 1934 and from 1945 to 1956 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

Frühwirth attended six classes of elementary school and learned the trade of textile worker. He initially worked as a textile worker and then as a magazine assistant, employee of the Union of Textile Workers Austria, editor of the trade journal Der Textilarbeiter (1921) and insurance agent. In 1910 he joined the SDAP and was a member of the Atzgersdorf municipal council from 1919 to 1934 . Frühwirth initially represented the SDAP in the National Council from February 2, 1930 to February 17, 1934. In 1934 he evaded charges of high treason in the “corporate state” by fleeing to Czechoslovakia and did not return to Austria until 1938. In 1944, during the Nazi era , he was imprisoned. From December 19, 1945 to June 8, 1956, Frühwirth again represented the SPÖ in the National Council. From 1945 to 1958 he was a member of the federal board of the ÖGB and in 1947 chairman of the union of textile, clothing and leather workers.
