Michael Fuchs (born January 4, 1970 in Nuremberg ) is a former German soccer player and today's goalkeeping coach with an A license . He looks after the German national soccer team for women and the juniors .

career

As a student, Michael Fuchs played for the second team of 1. FC Nürnberg and at ESV Rangierbahnhof Nürnberg. He also trained the goalkeepers of the youth teams. Klaus Augenthaler brought him to the pros as a goalkeeping coach. From 2000 to 2005 he looked after Andreas Köpke (2001) and Darius Kampa (2004) at 1. FC Nürnberg .

Andy Köpke, meanwhile himself the goalkeeping coach of the German men's national soccer team , placed the prospective English and sports teacher in 2007 as a possible coach for the women's national team. Up to now this had no permanent goalkeeping coach. After a trial at the Algarve Cup , he received a fixed-term contract in April 2007 until November 2007, for which he interrupted his legal clerkship . Michael Fuchs became world champion with the national team in 2007 . Nadine Angerer , who was in charge of him, stayed six games without conceding a goal and was even able to save a penalty in the final. His contract was initially extended until the end of the U20 World Cup in 2008. The goalkeeper coaches of the two national teams, Köpke and Fuchs, were the patrons of the international goalkeeper congress in Nuremberg in April 2008.

He was also involved in the other successes of the German women's football team in 2008 at the Olympic Games (bronze) and European champions in 2009 .

From February to the end of May 2010, Fuchs completed his legal clerkship and thus his training as a teacher. During this time, the former Fortuna Düsseldorf goalkeeper Jörg Daniel took over as goalkeeping coach.

Fuchs was again in action at the 2011 World Cup in his own country.

Michael Fuchs says he is an "advocate of the modern school of acting goalkeepers". According to another quote from him, there are two types of goalkeepers: "those who do not want to concede a goal and others who 'intervene in the game'." Fuchs works with Andreas Köpke and Raphael Schäfer to get ideas.

In addition to looking after the women's national team at all international matches, he is also responsible for viewing matches in the women's Bundesliga , carrying out training sessions and measures for the goalkeeper bases, and accompanying the junior national teams. The former national goalkeeper Silke Rottenberg supports him in the youth work . During the 2011 women's soccer world championship, Fuchs acted as the goalkeeping coach of the German women's national soccer team in the documentary 11 girlfriends . After the 2016 Olympic Games, Michael Fuchs will return to 1. FC Nürnberg as a goalkeeping coach, where he will look after the team in the second Bundesliga. He took on the task for two years, after which he returned to the coaching staff of the women's national team and left the FCN "at his own request".
