Michael Gallagher (born December 14, 1978 in Whitburn , Scotland ) is a former Australian disabled cyclist .

Athletic career

Michael Gallagher finished third in a stage of the Top End Tour in 2007 and second in the Mount William Road Classic. The following year he won at the Summer Paralympics in Beijing on the track the gold medal in the individual pursuit of class LC1 and on the road , he won the bronze medal in the road race of the class LC1 / LC2 / CP4. Gallagher has been riding for the Romanian Tusnad Cycling Team since 2010 . Jiří Ježek and Carol Eduard Novak also rode there in 2010, and they were both medalists at the 2008 Paralympics.

At the UCI Paracycling World Championships in 2015 , Gallagher was world champion (C5) in the single pursuit , in the scratch he won bronze.

doping

In August 2016, Gallagher was suspended by Cycling Australia and the Australian Paralympic Committee because a doping sample from July tested positive for EPO . The suspension went into effect immediately, so Gallagher could not compete in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro .

Gallagher's sporting career was over. He went back to his original job as a building appraiser.
