Michael Geier

Michael Ernst Anton Geier (born August 13, 1944 in Paderborn ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After studying law at the universities of Bonn , Kiel and Freiburg, he received a. a. 1970 also a diploma from the René Cassin Institute for Human Rights in Strasbourg. After joining the Foreign Service in 1973, he was employed at the Consulate General in Sao Paulo and at the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro. From 1979 to 1982 Michael Geier was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Mozambique. After a position in the Foreign Office (Department for Fisheries Policy) he became Ambassador to Burkina Faso ( Upper Volta ) in 1985 . From 1988 to 1990 he was permanent representative of the Ambassador to Tunisia. From 1990 to 1993 he was Deputy Head of the Western Europe Division in the Foreign Office. After a year as an exchange officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy, Michael Geier became head of the legal and consular department at the embassy in Italy in 1994. Thereupon he became head of the department for reparations and troop residence rights in 1997. From 1999 to 2001 he was head of the working staff of Federal Minister a. D. Otto Graf Lambsdorff at the “Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future”. Michael Geier became Deputy Head of the Legal Department at the Federal Foreign Office in 2001 and was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) from 2003 to July 2006. He was then ambassador to Bulgaria until 2009 .
