Michael Gerstenberger (born December 16, 1953 in Tüttleben ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and was a member of the Thuringian state parliament .

Life

Michael Gerstenberger finished his school career in 1972 with the Abitur and then did his basic military service in the National People's Army from 1972 to 1974 . He then completed a course of study at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 1974, which he completed as a graduate mathematician. From 1979 to 1990 he worked at Carl Zeiss in Gera in the field of company organization and process automation . From February 2010 to December 2018 he was Vice President of the Thuringian Court of Auditors. He has been a pensioner since 2019.

He is married and has two children.

From 2004 to 2010 Michael Gerstenberger was a member of Gera's city ​​council . From 1999 to 2010 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Energieversorgung Gera GmbH . He has been a member of the Gera City Council again since June 2019, where he is Deputy Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee.

From 1990 to 2009 he was a member of the Thuringian state parliament. There he was chairman of the budget and finance committee since 1999 . For his parliamentary group he was initially the spokesman for labor market policy, and later the spokesman for economic policy.

For the state elections in 2009 , he ran at number 24 on the state list of his party, which was not enough to return to the state parliament. As a direct candidate, he was defeated by the CDU applicant Beate Meißner in the Sonneberg I constituency .
