Michael Halhuber-Ahlmann (born November 12, 1947 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian psychologist and educator who has lived and worked in Berlin since 1989 . He was the first chairman of the Society for Scientific Conversational Psychotherapy , the largest professional association in Germany and at European level for person-centered psychotherapy and counseling according to Carl Rogers .

Life

Michael Halhuber-Ahlmann spent his school days in Seefeld in Tyrol , Ballston Lake (USA), Rendsburg (Schleswig-Holstein) and Innsbruck. In 1967 he passed his Abitur (in Austrian Matura ) at the humanistic grammar school in Innsbruck. He then spent a social year in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), and after that year began studying business education, medicine and psychology in Vienna and Innsbruck. Starting at this time, he was active as a player in the Austrian basketball league for 17 years, then was a certified trainer and referee consultant in the regional basketball association in Tyrol. In 1974 he completed his training as a probation officer in Vienna and worked in the following years as a probation officer in Tyrol. During this time, he and others set up and managed the DOWAS probation home (transit point for young people looking for accommodation and work). In 1981 he completed his basic training in client-centered psychotherapy (ÖGWG).

In 1984 he founded and headed the Homosexual Initiative Tirol e. V., as well as a local telephone psychological counseling service for homosexuals. In 1986 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Innsbruck (major: psychology, minor: pedagogy). From 1986 to 1989 he took over the management of the Tyrol regional office of the Austrian AIDS-Aid. In 1987 he was awarded the Eduard Wallnöfer Prize of the Tyrolean Industry for his commitment "for exemplary and unselfish commitment to sick people and those in need in exceptional social circumstances".

On November 6, 1989, he moved to Berlin . There he worked from 1990 to 1998 as a drug advisor, later as a psychotherapist and supervisor at the youth and drug counseling agency BOA e. V. (today VISTA e.V.) in the Berlin district of Tiergarten . In 1991 he was recognized as a psychotherapist according to the HPG. From 1995 to 2000 he was a consultant for the personnel selection of development workers on a fee basis at the German Development Service (ded), Berlin. At the same time, he completed his training as a client-centered psychotherapist at the Society for Scientific Discussion Psychotherapy (GwG) in 1996 and worked from then on as an independent psychotherapist in his own practice in Berlin. In 1997 he was also entered in the list of psychotherapists as well as in the lists of clinical psychologists and health psychologists in the Republic of Austria. In 1999 he obtained his license to practice as a psychological psychotherapist in Berlin, and from 2001 to 2010 also worked as an external psychotherapist in the penal system ( JVA Brandenburg ).

From 2004 to 2018 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Käte Ahlmann Foundation, which promotes professional training and equal opportunities for women and men in business life.

He held teaching positions at the Charité Clinic at the Humboldt University in Berlin , at the University of Innsbruck and at the Stendal University of Applied Sciences .
