Michael Hange (* 1950 ) was President of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in Bonn from October 16, 2009 to November 30, 2015 .

Hange studied mathematics in Bonn. From 1977 he was a consultant for computer security in the federal administration, before he became head of the IT security department in 1985. When the BSI was founded in 1991, he became head of the Consulting and Support department , which also developed the IT basic protection manual, and played a key role in the expansion of the BSI. One of the most important projects of his tenure was the introduction of the new identity card , the security architecture of which was largely co-developed by the BSI.

In 1994 he became Vice President of the BSI and, as national director for communications security, was the German representative in IT security committees of NATO and the EU . From February to October 2009 Michael Hange was the permanent representative of the IT director in the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Hange is a member of the steering committee for information technology at DIN and a member of the administrative board of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) .

At the end of November 2015, Hange retired.
