Johann Christoph von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn
Johann Christoph Graf von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn (* probably on December 12, 1591 in Laives , South Tyrol ; † December 1, 1643 ) was Bishop of Chiemsee from 1624 to 1643 .
family
Johann Christoph came from the South Tyrolean family Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn , whose ancestral castle was Leifers Castle near Bozen . His parents were Hans Jakob von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn and his second wife Barbara von Wolkenstein .
Life
Johann Christoph studied first in Innsbruck and from 1607 to 1612 in Rome, where he was an alumne at the Collegium Germanicum . He owned a cathedral canonical in Passau and since 1616 one in Salzburg . The Archbishop of Salzburg, Markus von Hohenems , appointed him his chamberlain in 1617. In addition, Johann Christoph also held the office of Consistorial President and Privy Councilor in Salzburg, where he was ordained a priest on June 16, 1621.
After the death of the Chiemsee Bishop Nikolaus von Wolkenstein , the Salzburg Archbishop Paris von Lodron appointed him his successor in 1624. In 1629 Johann Christoph wrote a description of his diocese. After a pilgrimage in 1632 to Loreto he founded in 1636, the Loreto Church in Salzburg. As Bishop of Chiemsee, Johann Christoph tried to have a stronger influence on his district, which is why he exchanged several church patrons over parishes with the Salzburg archbishop between 1635 and 1642 . He left the little castle Altdorf near Hallein , which belonged to the Chiemsee diocese but was in the archbishopric of Salzburg , to two Jesuits who had fled Bavaria from Sweden . He also supported the priest Bartholomäus Holzhauser by helping him to obtain a canonical in Tittmoning , where Holzhauser founded the first priestly community in 1640. In 1642 he transferred the parish of St. Johann in Tirol to him . In the same year Johann Christoph von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn was elected dean by the Salzburg cathedral chapter . He died a year later; his body was buried in Salzburg Cathedral .
