Christoph Schlattl

Christoph Schlattl (* in Bruck; † July 6, 1589 ) was Bishop of Chiemsee from 1558 to 1589 .

Life

Christoph Schlattl's origin and year of birth as well as his exact place of birth are not known. In 1543 he studied at the University of Ingolstadt , where he obtained the academic degree of Dr. iur. utr. acquired. He later worked as an assessor at the cathedral of the Salzburg diocese Gurk and as an archbishop of Salzburg council.

After the death of the Chiemsee bishop Hieronymus Meitting , the Archbishop of Salzburg Michael von Kuenburg appointed Christoph Schlattl as his successor in 1558. During his tenure, he had to fight a dispute over jurisdiction with the archdeacon of Herrenchiemsee . In a process started by his predecessor before the Reich Chamber of Commerce, the judgment followed in 1568, with which the Chiemsee diocese was recognized as a state of Salzburg . In 1569 Schlattl took part in the Salzburg Provincial Synod. In 1583 he had a concordat negotiated with the Bavarian duke co-signed by the Salzburg cathedral dean and the archbishop's adviser Sebastian Cattaneo . The church reform aimed at by the Counter Reformation received little support from him. After his death he was buried in the old Salzburg Cathedral . His portrait is on a foam coin that he had minted while he was still alive.
