Michael John Hastings, Baron Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE (born January 29, 1958 ) is Global Head of Corporate Citizenship at KPMG . As a life peer , he sits in the House of Lords .

From 1981 to 1985 he was a teacher and from 1990 to 1994 a television reporter and presenter. He was the first Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the BBC and was previously Head of Public Relations for the BBC. He is Department Head at British Telecom (BT) and Trustee of the Vodafone Group Foundation . He is a representative of KPMG International on the Global Corporate Citizenship Committee of the World Economic Forum and is chairman of the committee of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In 2009 he became a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Council on Diversity and Talent ; In 2010 he worked for the Global Agenda Council on the Next Generation , in 2011 for the Global Agenda Council on the Role of Business and in 2012 he became Vice Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on the Role of Civil Society . From 2008 to 2011 he also headed the global diversity strategy at KPMG International.

He is Chairman of Millennium Promise UK and a member of the Millennium Promise Advisory Board. He also represents KPMG on the Business in the Community international leadership committee .

In 2010 he was Chatham House's chief advisor on the UK's future role in foreign affairs. He sits on the committee of the Overseas Development Institute in the UK and the Center for Global Development in the USA. In 2011 he became Vice President of UNICEF .

In January 2003 he was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander in recognition of his longstanding commitment to crime reduction. a. for 15 years on the board of Crime Concern UK and 21 years as a trustee. He worked for the Commission for Racial Equality for nine years . He is ranked among the 100 Most Influential Blacks in the UK.

On October 12, 2005, he was raised to life peer status by the Queen as Baron Hastings of Scarisbrick , of Scarisbrick in the County of Lancashire, and introduced to the House of Lords on December 6, 2005 . In the same year he was also given the UNICEF award for his tireless commitment to African children. Lord Hastings of Scarisbrick is President of ZANE, a development aid organization with a focus on Zimbabwe. He is also the patron of the UK organization Child In Need India (CINI UK).
