The BT Group or British Telecommunications , or BT for short , is a British telecommunications company . The BT Group is the holding company of the group and only employs his board while the coincident British Telecommunications plc also includes its entire business and assets.
history
Founded as The Electric Telegraph Company in 1846, it is the world's oldest company in the field. The former state-owned telephone company was privatized under Margaret Thatcher in 1984 by the "Telecommunication Act 1984" and is now one of the few truly global telecommunications companies.
BT is a provider of communication solutions and services and is represented in 180 countries. The business activities concentrate on network and IT services; regional, national and international telecommunications services; Broadband and Internet products and services as well as convergent products and services that connect landline and cellular networks. Around 105,800 employees ( FTE ) work for the BT Group worldwide .
For the year ended March 31, 2018, BT Group had sales of £ 23.723 billion.
At the beginning of 2015, Deutsche Telekom and Orange, France, agreed to sell their British joint venture Everything Everywhere Ltd. or abbreviated EE to the BT Group . The approval of the competition authorities for this was granted in January 2016 without any conditions. Since then, Deutsche Telekom has held 12% of the BT Group, making it the largest anchor shareholder. The new subsidiary continues to be the UK's largest wireless operator. After the takeover, the already familiar abbreviation became the new company name EE Limited .

The BT group essentially includes:
- Global Services: Solutions and services for large business customers, internationally active (formerly BT Ignite )
- Consumer: Telephone and Internet services (landline and mobile) for end users in the UK
- Enterprise: Telephone, Internet and IT services for small and medium-sized businesses and public institutions in the UK
- Openreach: network infrastructure, wholesale services for BT and other network operators in the UK
In a ranking published in March 2014, Gartner rated BT for the tenth time as a market leader in the field of "Global Network Service Providers".
BT in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
In Germany, BT is now represented by BT Germany with its headquarters in Munich, which belongs to the "Global" branch. BT (Germany) GmbH & Co. OHG emerged from the former Viag Interkom , formerly a joint venture between BT, VIAG and the Norwegian Telenor. In 2002, Viag Interkom was split into a fixed network division (today's BT Germany) and a mobile communications division, which was taken over by the Spanish Telefónica at the beginning of 2006 and is now known as Telefónica Germany (brand: o2).
BT mainly focuses on large, multinational companies in Germany and offers them network and communication solutions. Numerous DAX companies are among the customers, who are often served across several continents. BT is also a leading provider of enterprise IT security services.
BT is represented in Austria by BT Austria GmbH, based in Vienna, which belongs to BT Germany.
In Switzerland, BT operates under the name of BT Switzerland Ltd., with its headquarters in Wallisellen near Zurich and branches in Bern , Basel and Geneva .
