Michael James Foreman (born March 29, 1957 in Columbus , Ohio ) is a retired American astronaut .

education

Foreman attended high school through 1975. He then studied aerospace engineering at the US Naval Academy . In 1979 he earned a bachelor's degree . The Naval Postgraduate School also awarded him a Masters in Aerospace Engineering in 1986 .

Astronaut activity

In June 1998, Foreman was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA.

STS-123

Foreman's first space flight took place in March 2008. The STS-123 mission brought part of the Japanese Kibo module and the Canadian robotic hand Dextre to the International Space Station .

STS-129

Foreman was nominated for the STS-129 space shuttle mission in September 2008 . He took off on November 16, 2009 with the space shuttle Atlantis to the International Space Station (ISS) . On November 19, he carried out a space exit with Robert Satcher . Among other things, they installed a reserve antenna, laid cables and lubricated moving parts. On November 21, 2009 he undertook another space exit with Randy Bresnik .

Foreman left NASA on July 31, 2015 to join a consulting firm in Houston .

Private

Foreman is married with three children.
