Michael Kalkbrenner (born July 1, 1956 in Oldenburg ) is a former German football player and coach .

Career

Born in Oldenburg, Michael Kalkbrenner began playing club football in 1961 at the age of six at TuS Ofen, a club from the Bad Zwischenahn district near Oldenburg. In 1971 he moved to the youth department of VfL Oldenburg . Three years later, Kalkbrenner, having outgrown his youth, joined the club's national league team.

In 1976 he went, together with a few other VfL players, to TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven, and thus to the league, which was then the third highest division. There, after good performance, VfB Oldenburg noticed him, who signed him in 1978. VfB was then a league competitor of Olympia Wilhelmshaven and won the league championship in 1980 under coach Helmut Mrosla after placing in the middle of the table in previous years . Kalkbrenner played his part as a regular player. Oldenburg rose to the 2nd Bundesliga by winning the title. There they had the bad luck that after the season the two seasons of the second division were merged and thus half of the teams had to relegate. VfB Oldenburg was affected as 15th and had to return to the league after just one year. After all, Kalkbrenner was involved in 37 of 42 games and was able to distinguish himself as a goalscorer in the first game. After relegation, Kalkbrenner initially remained loyal to the club, but in 1981/82, Oldenburg had clearly missed promotion, he moved to Saarland to the ambitious south-west upper division 1. FC Saarbrücken with coach Uwe Klimaschefski . As a student of economics, Kalkbrenner was able to study several guest semesters in Saarbrücken.

In addition to Kalkbrenner, the FCS also strengthened itself with the former national player Wolfgang Seel . The FCS confidently won the title of Southwest Champion and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga after successfully completing the promotion round. In the following second division season one achieved relegation without having come seriously into relegation difficulties. Michael Kalkbrenner only appeared 15 times that season after an injury. The contract with FCS was terminated by mutual agreement and Kalkbrenner went to VfL Osnabrück (Oberliga Nord) with his Saarbrücken teammate Heinz-Jochen Goll . Here he was able to celebrate the third second division promotion of his career after the first season. Promotion coach was Rolf Grünther , who had replaced Erhard Ahmann after the third match day . Kalkbrenner then played with VfL in the 2nd Bundesliga until 1988, before ending his career due to an injury.

After the playing career

One year after the end of his career as a player, the economist and business graduate became managing director of VfB Oldenburg . He was also successful in this position, because during his tenure, VfB, trained by Wolfgang Sidka , was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. He then retired from football and held a managerial position at two companies. In 1995 he started again in the same position at VfB Oldenburg, who rose again with Kalkbrenner as manager in the Bundesliga lower house. In 1997 he left the club and three years later made the coaching license (B license). In 2001 he began working as a DFB base coach, where he spotted and trained talents from the Oldenburg region until 2006.

In August 2009, Kalkbrenner was introduced as the sporting director at VfB Oldenburg. At the end of the season, the team qualified for the single-track Oberliga Niedersachsen. He gave up his job in May 2010 for professional reasons. He currently (2011) runs a debt collection company in Oldenburg with his brother.
