Michael Klein (addiction researcher)

Michael Klein (* 1954 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a psychologist, university professor, addiction researcher and president of the German Society for Addiction Psychology .

Life

Klein studied psychology from 1973 to 1980 at the University of Trier and at Georgetown University in Washington, DC In 1980 he received his diploma in psychology from the University of Trier. There he also received his doctorate. rer. nat. with the dissertation "Classification of alcoholics by personality and addiction characteristics". From 1980 to 1983 he was a clinical psychologist at the Daun / Eifel specialist clinic in Darscheid and then until 1991 chief psychologist at the Thommener Höhe specialist clinic, also in Darscheid . Subsequently, until 1994, Klein was chief psychologist at the Altburg Specialist Clinic in Schalkenmehren .

In 1994 he became professor for clinical and social psychology at the "Catholic University of Applied Sciences North Rhine-Westphalia" (KFH NW), Cologne department. Today the university is called the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia (KatHO NRW). Klein has been head of the addiction research area since 1999 and head of the addiction research competence platform at KatHO NRW since March 2005. This platform was converted into an institute in 2009, the German Institute for Addiction and Prevention Research (DISuP). Michael Klein is co-editor of the specialist magazine "Suchttherapie".
