Michael Knauth (hockey player)

Michael Knauth (born June 24, 1965 in Wolfsburg ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion .

Knauth started at VfL Wolfsburg , then played at Braunschweiger THC and finally switched to Limburger HC , with whom he became German indoor champions in 1990 and 1991, and in 1992 Knauth won the European Indoor Championships with Limburg .

After becoming Junior European Champion in 1984 and Junior World Champion in 1985, the goalkeeper made his debut in 1987 in the German national hockey team . But it wasn't until 1990 that Knauth rose to become a regular goalkeeper, he won the title at the European field hockey championship in 1991 and was in goal in 1991 and 1992 when he won the Champions Trophy . At the Olympic Games in 1992 Knauth was the goalkeeper for the first Olympic victory in twenty years. After a break of a few years, Knauth returned to the national team for the 1996 Olympic Games and was substitute goalkeeper for Christopher Reitz when the German team finished fourth. Knauth played a total of 72 international matches, 7 of them indoors.

For the Olympic victory in 1992, he and his team received the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993.

Knauth lives separately from his wife and two daughters. He runs his company in the foam industry in Limburg .
