Michael Kopatz (born April 29, 1971 in Osnabrück ) is a German environmental scientist , lecturer and project manager at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy . Between 2011 and 2017 he was a lecturer at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the University of Kassel . In the local elections in Lower Saxony on September 11, 2016, he was elected to the city ​​council of Osnabrück for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party. In his book of the same name, he introduced the term ecoroutine to the discussion.

Career

From 1993 to 1997 Kopatz studied social sciences with a focus on environmental policy and planning at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg . In 2006 he received his doctorate there. rer. pole. with the work "Sustainability and administrative modernization: A theoretical and empirical analysis using the example of North Rhine-Westphalian municipal administrations".

Scientific activity

Since 1997 he has been a research assistant at the Wuppertal Institute, since 2007 as a project manager in the research group on energy, transport and climate policy. From 2007 to 2008 he was project manager and co-author of the study Sustainable Germany in a Globalized World , funded by MISEREOR and BUND , which was carried out by scientists from the Wuppertal Institute. Later he was the project manager and main author of the study Sustainable Hamburg and other popular scientific works.

His work focuses on the effects of the energy transition on poverty households, local climate protection , energy sufficiency and the design of a sustainable economy (resilience economy). In addition, he deals with concepts for strengthening regional and public welfare in municipalities. He calls this approach Economic Development 4.0 . In his book Ökoroutine , published in 2016 , he advocates a policy that sets innovative standards in laws, ordinances and guidelines.

Kopatz appears on the topics of his academic work at cities, institutions and initiatives in Germany as a speaker, guest speaker and keynote speaker .
