Michael Müller (forest scientist)

Michael Gunter Müller (born January 22,  1962 in Lieberose ) is a German forest scientist .

Life

Müller grew up as the son of a forester . His father was against his son also taking this career path because it was badly paid in the German Democratic Republic , said Müller. Until 1978 he attended the Polytechnische Oberschule in Jamlitz and Lieberose and then completed an apprenticeship as a forest worker and mechanizer at a school in Bad Doberan , where he also obtained the university entrance qualification . In 1981, Müller also completed an aptitude test for hunting. After serving in the National People's Army and working as a forest worker between 1981 and 1983, he began studying forestry at the Dresden University of Technology , Tharandt branch , which he completed in 1988. From 1988 to 1992, Müller then worked as a research assistant in the forest protection department at the TU Dresden .

From 1992 to 1997 he worked as a department head in the State Forestry Office of Brandenburg , during which time (1993) he completed his doctoral thesis in forest science. Between 1997 and 1999, Müller headed the work area silviculture, forest ecology, forest protection, nature conservation and forest planning in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests of the State of Brandenburg .

In 1999 he took up a professorship for forest protection at the Faculty of Forestry, Geosciences and Hydro Sciences at the TU Dresden. In 2004 Müller also became director of the Institute for Silviculture and Forest Protection at the university. In 2013, the institute at the TU Dresden was renamed the Institute for Silviculture and Forest Protection in the Institute for Silviculture and Forest Protection. In the course of this, his chair was renamed Professur for Forest Protection in the field of forest sciences.

To miller research include the ecological forest management and ecological forest protection, further development of methods for the regulation of insects in the forest, including the bark beetle populations without pesticides use. His area of ​​work also includes topics such as forest fires and other forest damage (e.g. from storms and snowfall) as well as hoofed game hunting strategies .
