Michael Mauke

Michael Mauke (* 1928 ; † January 30, 1966 ) was a left-wing German activist of the student movement .

Life

Mauke had been a member of the SDS group at the Free University of Berlin since 1948 , where he studied philosophy, sociology and history. Around 1950 he was active in the SJD - Die Falken , Naturfreundejugend and in the SPD . From the mid-1950s he was a permanent employee, from 1957 to the end of the magazine in 1959 editor of the federal organ of the SDS Standpunkt .

Mauke was instrumental in the emergence of the New Left in the Federal Republic of Germany . He orientated himself mainly to critics of Stalinism like Willy Huhn . Together with Jürgen Seifert he fought for a left-wing socialist orientation of the SDS. Mauke's theses on Marx's class theory served Rudi Dutschke as an important source of inspiration.

In 1963 he published the book Gestatte mir Hochachtungsschluck together with Dietrich Wetzel (pseudonym "Lutz E. Finke") . Federal German corporate elite (Rütten & Loening, Hamburg).

Mauke died in early 1966 of the long-term effects of a tuberculosis disease that he suffered in a Hitler Youth labor camp in 1944/1945 . His unfinished dissertation The Class Theory of Marx and Engels was published posthumously.
