Michael Mayer (born February 14, 1980 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ) is a former German national volleyball player .
Career
Michael Mayer began his career at TV Viechtach , with whom he became German E-Youth Champion in Leschede in 1992 . He then played at ASV Dachau and TSV Deggendorf , before making his debut at SV Lohhof in the First Bundesliga in 1997 and was voted the season's newcomer . In 1998 he went to the German champions SV Bayer Wuppertal . After only a few months he was drawn back to his Bavarian homeland to the league competitor TSV Unterhaching , with whom he established himself in the national top in the following years. In 2003 Michael Mayer moved to Noliko Maaseik in Belgium , where he was Belgian champion, cup winner and Supercup winner alongside his national team colleague Georg Wiebel . Then he returned to the Bundesliga for TSV Unterhaching. In autumn 2007 they split up in a dispute. After a year and a half break from volleyball, Michael Mayer made a comeback at Bundesliga club SG Eltmann. From 2009 to 2011 Mayer played for his former club TSV Deggendorf in the regional league. In the 2011/12 season he played again at SV Lohhof, with whom he was promoted to the regional league in 2012. Mayer has been a player- coach at TSV Mühldorf since the 2012/13 season . Born in Sulzbach, he won the championship of the Regionalliga Südost with Upper Bavaria.
Michael Mayer completed 55 international matches for the German national team .
Private
Today Michael Mayer is a math and physics teacher at the state secondary school in Simbach am Inn .
