Michael Niederig (born January 12, 1980 in Cologne ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

At the age of four, the midfielder's parents registered their son with FC Remscheid . In 1991 1. FC Köln became aware of the Cologne native and brought him to their home. There he went through all youth departments and was finally taken over into the squad of the amateur team, with which he first played in the Oberliga Nordrhein and in 2001/02 rose as a champion in the Regionalliga Nord . From 2003 he was even a member of the professional squad, but still played numerous games for the second team. However, it was only used three times by the professionals. In the 2nd Bundesliga , he seemed to be on the way to the starting eleven. But at this point in time he was seriously injured and only got fit again shortly before the end of the season. The FC did not extend his contract in 2005 and he went to Holstein Kiel in the Regionalliga Nord, where he held a regular place in the 2006/07 season.

After Kiel's relegation to the Oberliga (2007), low moved back to the second team of 1. FC Köln for the 2007/08 season ; he was also a member of the first team, but where he was not used. After the 2010/11 season he ended his career.

In July 2012 he took over the operational management of the sports boarding school of 1. FC Köln .
