Michael P. Kitt

Michael P. Kitt ( Irish Micheál Ó Ceit , born May 17, 1950 in Tuam , County Galway ) is an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ) and has been a member of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament , since 2007 .

Kitt attended St. Jarlath's College in Tuam, St. Patrick's Teacher Training College in Drumcondra , University College Dublin , where he received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Higher Diploma of Education (HdipED), and University College Galway . Kitt now worked as a teacher.

In March 1975 he was elected to the Dáil Éireann for the first time in a by-election in the constituency of Galway North-East and thus reoccupied the vacant seat of his late father Michael F. Kitt . In the next regular elections in 1977, however, Kitt was unable to defend his mandate. Instead he was elected to the 14th Seanad Éireann . It was not until 1981 that he succeeded in re-entering the Dáil Éireann in the constituency of Galway East , to which he belonged until 2002. As a Member of Parliament ( Teachta Dála ) he was Minister of State of the Taoiseach from November 15, 1991 to February 11, 1992 . In July 2002 he was nominated Senator in the 22nd Seanad Éireann by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern . After he was elected to the 30th Dáil, he held various posts as Minister of State.

From 1975 to 1991, Kitt was a member of Galway County Council and served as its chairman from 1985 to 1986.

He is married and has four children, three sons and a daughter. His brother Tom Kitt and his sister Áine Brady are also politically active.
