Michael Paschalis

Michael Paschalis , Greek Μιχαήλ Πασχάλης , is a Greek classical philologist and neo- Greekist .

Paschalis studied at the universities of Athens and Bologna and at the Ohio State University , where he received his doctorate in 1980 with a dissertation on Livy and Sallust . Today he is Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Crete .

His broad research interests lie in the Hellenistic, Augustan and early imperial poetry (especially Virgil ), the Seneca tragicus , the ancient historiography, the ancient novel . In the field of modern Greek literature and the history of reception , he spoke about Vitsentzos Kornaros ’s Erotokritos , Giovanni Boccaccio , Ugo Foscolo , Adamantios Korais , Andreas Kalvos , Dionysios Solomos , the modern Greek novel and the classical tradition, Konstantinos Kavafis , Giorgos Seferis and Alexandros Rhizos ' Rhizos The Lord of Morea worked.
