Michael Quaas

Michael Quaas (born June 27, 1949 in Pirna ) is a German handball trainer and former handball player.

The Quaas family moved to Guben at an early age , where Michael Quaas began playing handball at the age of 14 . His father Guido Quaas was also a handball player, as was his younger brother Jochen Quaas .

The 1.75 meter tall left wing player moved to ASK Berlin after graduating from high school in January 1969 , where he played handball as a sports soldier . When the club was relocated to Frankfurt (Oder) , Quaas went with them and initially played in the second team at the newly founded ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt . In 1972 he moved to the first men's team that played in the GDR major league . He ended his playing career in 1974.

From then on he trained at ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt, first the youngsters, then the second men's team and from 1980 to 1988 together with Wilfried Weber the first men's team in the major league. His successes as a trainer in Frankfurt include three runner-up titles. From 1988 he was head coach for the male area. In 1990 he left at his own request; at that time he held the rank of NVA captain. He became state trainer in Brandenburg and instructor.

From 1992 to 2004 he ran a gas station as a tenant together with his wife , which he gave up for health reasons.

As a coach he took over the second team at Frankfurt HC , then as an assistant coach the first team in the handball Bundesliga . He also trained the D-youth of the handball club.

Michael Quaas is a trained chemical fiber specialist and qualified sports teacher. He is married and has two children.
