Career

Ramstetter first worked as an editor for Bayernteil for Münchner Merkur , then as an editor for magazines for Süddeutscher Verlag . Afterwards he was editor-in-chief of SegelMagazin as well as in the development department of the media company Ringier (Switzerland). From 1982 he then worked for Burda Verlag , where he became head of the novel and series for the Bunte Illustrierte. From September 1985 he was the managing editor of the illustrated Bunte . In 1988 he became editor-in-chief of the travel magazine Holiday and most recently editor-in-chief for Print Offline Online at BurdaCom Media Solutions GmbH. Ramstetter worked for Burda Verlag for 15 years. He then went into business for himself with his consulting firm Concept Company Media Consulting before joining the ADAC. In mid-2015 he became self-employed again with Michael Ramstetter Medienberatung.

Work for the ADAC

Since June 1, 1998, Ramstetter was editor-in-chief of ADAC Motorwelt and thus responsible for the content and staff of the magazine. With around 13.8 million copies (as of 2014), Motorwelt claims that it is the highest-circulation magazine in Europe.

At the same time he became head of ADAC corporate communications.

Yellow Angel manipulation and resignation

After allegations of manipulation in the awarding of the Gelber Engel car award , Ramstetter resigned on January 18, 2014. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the winning car VW Golf, which was awarded on January 16, 2014, only gave 3,409 votes instead of the 34,299 votes mentioned in an ADAC document. According to the ADAC, the ranking of the winners was not changed, but the number of votes was multiplied. The management admitted that such manipulations had been practiced for several years. An independent review of the processes commissioned by the ADAC came to the conclusion that the ranking of the winners had also been manipulated, and had been for years. The Munich I public prosecutor's office is investigating Ramstetter on the initial suspicion of violating the Unfair Competition Act (UWG) and on July 18, 2014 also carried out a house search in Starnberg.
