Michael Rendi

Michael Rendi (born October 9, 1964 ) is a former Austrian diplomat .

From 2016 to 2018 he was Head of Cabinet of the then Social Democratic Party - Chancellery Minister Thomas Drozda . From 2008 to 2011, Rendi was the Austrian ambassador to Israel . He is the husband of the SPÖ federal party chairman Pamela Rendi-Wagner .

Life

Rendi comes from an old Austrian Jewish cloth merchant family who were based in Graz (Simon Rendi department store on Joanneumring) and Zagreb . He grew up in Austria, Trieste and São Paulo  .

After attending the Lycée Français de Vienne and the Liceu Pasteur in São Paulo, he completed a degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and entered the diplomatic service in 1992, where he was initially employed at the Austrian embassies in Damascus , Helsinki and London . From 2002 to 2007 he headed the office of the Secretary General in the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs . From 2008 to 2011 he held the post of Austrian ambassador to Israel .

Before moving to the Federal Chancellery as Head of Cabinet of the Federal Minister for Art and Culture, Constitution and Media in 2016, Rendi headed the department for the United Nations and international organizations at the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

Private

Rendi is married to the Austrian doctor , politician and federal party leader of the SPÖ , Pamela Rendi-Wagner , with whom he has two daughters.

Rendi was co-founder and 1st President of the Rugby Club Vienna (today Rugby Union Donau Wien). In 1992 Michael Rendi was the captain of the Austrian national rugby team at the first official international match between Austria and Hungary in Budapest.
