Franz Josef Kuglitsch (born January 30, 1956 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian ambassador .

Life

Franz Josef Kuglitsch grew up in Hermagor . He is married and has four kids. From 1974 to 1979 he studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law . From 1980 to 1981 he studied at the College of Europe in Bruges , from which he graduated with the Certificat des Hautes Etudes Européennes.

In March 1982 he joined the Austrian foreign service. Until 1983 he was employed in the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs . From 1983 to 1984 Kuglitsch was an attaché in Damascus . From 1984 to 1987 he was second class secretary of the embassy in London . From 1987 to 1990 he was first class secretary of the embassy in Tunis . From 1990 to 1995 he worked in the CSCE / OSCE department. From 1993 to 1995 he headed the Department for Military Affairs of the CSCE as Legation Councilor. From 1995 to 2000 Kuglitsch was envoy to Washington, DC . From 2000 to 2007 he was ambassador representative of the Austrian government in the Political and Security Committee (PSK) of the EU and permanent representative of the Austrian government in the Western European Union , to which Austria had observer status during this period.

From October 2007 to October 2011, he headed the Eastern and Southeastern Europe Department in the Foreign Ministry and was also appointed Deputy Political Director in the Ministry in July 2009. In November 2011 he was appointed ambassador to Tel Aviv and was accredited on January 4, 2012. In November 2015, Kuglitsch was replaced as Austrian ambassador to Israel by Martin Weiss . From 2016 to 2017 he headed the Department for Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation in the Foreign Ministry. As a member of the core group, Austria played a leading role in drawing up the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons . In September 2017 he took up his post as Austrian ambassador to Mexico (co-accreditation in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua). On May 8, 2018, he presented the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto with his credentials.
