Michael Sauer (born August 7, 1987 in St. Cloud , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who has played for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League during his active career .
Career
Michael Sauer began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , in which he was active from 2004 to 2007 for the Portland Winter Hawks and Medicine Hat Tigers . With the Medicine Hat Tigers he won the President's Cup , the championship title of the WHL, in the 2006/07 season . During his junior years, the defender was selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 40th player by the New York Rangers . From 2007 to 2010 he played mostly for their farm team Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League , where he came in the 2008/09 season parallel to his debut in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers. In three games he remained without point and punishment. In the 2010/11 season , the American earned a regular place with the New York Rangers, for which he scored 16 points, including three goals, in a total of 81 NHL games.
