Michael Schaefer (producer)

Michael Schaefer (* 1975/1976) is a German film producer .

Michael Schaefer is the son of a film producer and a director and grew up in Dortmund . He attended the Schloss Salem school . After graduating from high school, he studied business administration in Cologne and Halifax , Canada. There he produced his first short film. He completed the production course at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy . In 2004 he came to London for an internship , where he was promoted to management assistant. In 2005 he went to the United States and joined Summit Entertainment in California.

In 2012 he moved to Ridley Scott's film company Scott Free Productions . In 2016 he was nominated for an Oscar for best film as the producer of The Martian - Save Mark Watney .
