Life

After graduating from high school at the Marquartstein state school home and doing community service at the Bavarian State School for the Physically Disabled, he first studied human medicine as well as political and theater science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1977 he studied speech formation and acting (diploma) and eurythmy (diploma) at the Alanus University for Art and Society in Alfter near Bonn . Study visits and further training took him to England, the USA, Switzerland and France to Commedia dell'arte (with Alessandro Marchetti at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri, Switzerland), Physical Theater (Ecole Philippe Gaulier, Paris), and Jeu Burlesque (École Jacques Lecoq, Paris) as well as improv theater with Keith Johnstone, Marco Baliani and Clown Nögge. He earned a certificate as a theater pedagogue (BuT) and completed advanced training in drama and theater therapy .

Michael Schwarzmann has been teaching as a professor for acting with a focus on physical theater and commedia dell` arte at the Alanus University of Art and Society since 2002 . As a member of the department management (until 2013), he played a key role in the state recognition and development of the drama course.

His main research interests are the expressive possibilities of non-verbal theatrical communication ( body language , posture, gait, gestures, facial expressions) as well as non-cognitive elements of language (basic signs and sound moods). Building on the work of Konstantin Stanislawski , Michail Cechov, Jacques Lecoq and Rudolf Steiner in particular, he developed a specific methodology and didactics for the Commedia dell'arte and, with his students, created a new theatrical form, the "Sitcom dell'arte". This is based on the study of the classic mask types and their conflicts and repeatedly connects their characteristic playing style and style with current social developments. In doing so, she also integrates new media phenotypes and their behavioral patterns. This resulted in more than a dozen productions that were invited to various theater festivals.
