Michael Wolfram Siebel (born June 12, 1957 in Bad Schwalbach ) is a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and former member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Michael Siebel studied teaching at the Technical University of Darmstadt at the secondary level II for mathematics and biology and passed the 2nd state examination in 1986. He has been a certified business coach since March 2015.

politics

Michael Siebel joined the SPD in 1982. From 1986 to 1992 he was on the district board of the Young Socialists , most recently as district chairman. In 1993 he was elected to the district executive committee of the SPD Hessen Süd, of which he has been deputy chairman for four years (as of 2015). In 1989 he became the personal assistant to the Lord Mayor of Offenbach . In 1994 he became press spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in Hesse.

Michael Siebel has been a city councilor in Darmstadt since 1999 and is today spokesman (parliamentary group chairman) of the city council group. He is on the administrative committee of the Darmstadt State Theater .

Since 1999 he has been a member of the Hessian state parliament and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He won the constituency of Darmstadt-Stadt I in the 1999 , 2008 and 2013 elections and was otherwise elected via the SPD state list. In 2008 he was responsible for the abolition of tuition fees in Hessen. From 2009 to 2014 he was deputy chairman of the Committee on Economics and Transport. Until he left the state parliament, he was chairman of his parliamentary group in the main committee and media policy spokesman. He was also the housing policy spokesman for the SPD. Siebel was a member of the committee for the environment, climate protection, agriculture and consumer protection. He did not run again in the state elections in Hesse in 2018 .

When he was elected Lord Mayor of Darmstadt on March 19, 2017, Siebel received 16.7% of the votes cast; with a voter turnout of 43.9%.

Volunteering

Michael Siebel volunteers as chairman of the Darmstadt workers' welfare organization and chairman of the forum for art and culture of the Hessian Social Democracy eV Michael Siebel was a part-time member of the board of Bauverein AG Darmstadt until 2014. In April 2014 Siebel was elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Hessian state center for political education. In 2016 he was elected chairman of the Institute for Media Education and Communication eV in Hessen.

Private

Michael Siebel has three children from a first partnership. He lives separately from his wife. Siebel lives in Darmstadt's Pallaswiesenviertel .
