Life and work

From 1976, Stückradt studied law at the University of Cologne . He completed his legal clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Cologne . After the second state examination in law in 1984, he became a research assistant at the Institute for Banking and Banking Law at the University of Cologne, where he also received his doctorate .

From 1986 to 1998, Stückradt was head of the finance department and deputy administrative director of the RWTH Aachen University Hospital . After becoming Administrative Director of the University Hospital of Düsseldorf University in 1999 , he returned to RWTH Aachen University just one year later , where he was Chancellor until he was appointed State Secretary in 2005 .

From July 1, 2005 until the Rüttger government was replaced by the Kraft I government in July 2010, Michael Stückradt, who is a member of the FDP , was State Secretary in the state 's Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology, led by Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) North Rhine-Westphalia . In this function, he was primarily responsible for the Higher Education Freedom Act , in which a university council effectively replaced the senate as the decision-making body as a new body in the universities . Public figures from the ministry for the individual universities were appointed to this university council. This violated the constitutionally guaranteed self-government guarantee of the universities. The university council of the University of Cologne appointed by his former ministry then unanimously elected Stückradt as chancellor in 2012, which the Senate confirmed in July.

Michael Stüdkradt is a member of the board of trustees of the Democracy Foundation of the University of Cologne.

Stückradt is married and has one daughter.
